Marino Railway Station set for $2 million upgrade to boost safety and comfort

Marino Railway Station will receive a $2 million upgrade, adding new safety features like CCTV, a digital information kiosk, and improved accessibility

The Marino Railway Station is set to see a major $2 million upgrade aimed at enhancing passenger safety and comfort. This vital upgrade will kick off in early 2025 and see the installation of new amenities including a digital information kiosk, CCTV, and upgraded tactile paving to aid accessibility.

The upgrade is designed not just to improve safety but also to help those with visual or hearing impairments through visual and audio announcements on interactive platforms. Additionally, the construction of a new curved shelter with seating, lean rails, and weather screens will provide improvements to commuter comfort. These include over 32,000 yearly passengers who use this train station.

More than 32,000 train trips are taken from Marino Railway Station every year, and it is absolutely crucial that passengers feel safe and comfortable when catching public transport,” shared Tom Koutsantonis MP, Minister for Infrastructure and Transport.

“Secure journeys start and end at safe stations, and that’s what we are delivering across the rail network as we work to refresh existing infrastructure to cater for our growing communities, as we prepare to bring our services back into public hands.”

This project builds upon previous modifications, which included significant investments such as brightening the underpass, improving platform visibility, and resurfacing, costing around $700,000 in total. The initiative is part of a more extensive State Government effort to improve passenger experiences across the Adelaide Metro. This includes recent works at Ethelton and Ovingham Railway Stations worth approximately $25 million, focusing on enhancing commuter safety and station amenities. Other improvements have been witnessed at the Woodlands Park and Clarence Park Railway Stations.

Late August 2024 saw the reopening of the Port Dock railway services in Port Adelaide, which had been discontinued for 40 years. This project, costing $51 million, included a new station, plaza, and bus interchange on Baker Street, interconnected with the Outer Harbor rail line to boost accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists.
