Matt Byrne Media will present the SA Premiere of the world’s most loved family musical, Mary Poppins, in Adelaide and Elizabeth this July/August.

Australian author P.L. Travers’ classic tale of a magical nanny who sorts out the dysfunctional Banks Family in 1910 London, will land on the Arts Theatre stage from July 2-18 and fly to Elizabeth’s Shedley Theatre from July 23 to August 1.

The Oscar-winning Walt Disney movie musical made Julie Andrews a superstar. Famous producer Cameron MacIntosh got personal permission from Travers to turn the story into a stage musical, which has won rave reviews around the globe since 2004.

The fabulous score from Richard and Robert Sherman features musical classics like Spoonful Of Sugar, Chim Chim Cher-ee, Let’s Go Fly A Kite, Jolly Holiday, Feed The Birds and Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.

Producer/Director Matt Byrne said getting the rights to present the SA Premiere of Mary Poppins was “an incredible honour and opportunity to showcase the wonderful talent we have in Adelaide.”

Gordon Combes will be Musical Director and Sue Pole is Choreographer. Byrne is thrilled with the cast they have assembled for Mary Poppins.

We are delighted to have Lauren Potter playing the title role of Mary Poppins: it is a role she was born to play, and Brendan Cooney will make a marvellous Bert,” Byrne said.

The cast also features James McCluskey-Garcia and Ellonye Keniry as George and Winifred Banks, and two tremendous young performers in Shalani Wood and Sebastien Skubala as their children Jane and Michael.

Megan Humphries will play the nasty nanny Miss Andrew; Penni Hamilton-Smith is the Banks’ long-suffering cook Mrs. Brill; Callum Byrne is the nervous manservant, Robertson Ay; and the much-loved Chris Bussey will play The Bird Woman.”

Also appearing in the musical are: Neville Phillis, Maggie Wood, Russell Ford, Margaret Davis, Sean Hilton, Rikki DeJesus, Nikki Yiannoullou, Anthony Butler and a wonderful ensemble of fine Adelaide performers.

Byrne said “We have a record five-week season to cope with expected demand as the professional production never made it to Adelaide but this one certainly will. If you want a ticket to see Mary Poppins I suggest you book now!

Mary Poppins will run at the Arts Theatre from July 2 to 4, 7 to 11 and 14 to 18 at 8 p.m., and July 4, 11 and 18 at 2 p.m., and at Elizabeth’s Shedley Theatre from July 23 to 25 and July 30 to August 1 at 8 p.m., and July 25 and August 1 at 2 p.m. There will be $30 Budget Nights on July 7 & 14 at the Arts and July 23 at the Shedley at 8 p.m.
