Masters of herb & spice, Gewürzhaus to open this weekend at the Adelaide Central Market

Gewürzhaus offers more than 350 high-quality single-origin spices, herbs, salts, peppers, teas and sugars from around the world.

The Adelaide Central Market Authority has today announced Australia’s most renowned herb and spice merchants Gewürzhaus will open its first South Australian location at the Adelaide Central Market.

Established by German-born sisters Eva, Maria and their mother Gabi, Gewürzhaus (meaning ‘Spice House’ in German) opened its first store in June 2010.

It has since expanded to seven stores located in Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra.

Gewürzhaus offers more than 350 high-quality single-origin spices, herbs, salts, peppers, teas and sugars from around the world.

It mixes and mills over 100 unique small-batch blends, which are made on a weekly basis using the freshest and highest quality ingredients.

Adelaide Central Market General Manager Jodie Kannane said Gewürzhaus would bring a brand-new offering to the Market.

“Gewürzhaus is a highly successful family-operated business that offers a truly unique product, and a customer experience that is perfectly aligned to the Adelaide Central Market,” she said.

“We look forward to welcoming Gewürzhaus to the Market community.”

In keeping with Market traditions, the Gewürzhaus experience is built on old-fashioned, personalised customer service where the self-scoop system encourages customers to buy small quantities in custom- made German spice bags to try at home.

Director Eva Konecsny said she was proud to bring a whole new herb and spice offering to South Australia.

“With its 151-year history and tradition, the Adelaide Central Market is the perfect fit for Gewürzhaus,” she said.

“Cooking from the home and heart has always been an integral part of preserving traditions for four generations in our family. We can’t wait to share our passion and products with customers and inspire them to create new recipes and traditions.”

The official opening date of Gewürzhaus in Stall 43 is Saturday, October 10 at 7am.

Established in 1869, the Adelaide Central Market has been a thriving hub of food and culture for over 150 years. With over 70 traders under one roof, the Adelaide Central Market is one of the largest undercover fresh produce markets in the southern hemisphere.
