Attention Matcha-lovers! There’s more to love of popular Japanese café Matcha House, with the Grote Street cafe opening a sister store, lovingly named “Little Matcha House”.

Little Matcha House is set to open on Thursday November 4 and will be an ‘express’ form of the parent shop, specialising in Japanese Matcha Green Tea, soft serve ice cream and other desserts and drinks along with Japanese flavoured products such as Joujicha, Gemaicha and Yuzu.

Until the opening, make sure you pop into Matcha House, the original licensed dessert café, which has been Adelaide’s first premier specialist in Japanese Match Green Tea since 2014. The house is guided by the traditional methods from traditional tea houses in order to deliver the best experiences of Matcha. With overseas travel off the cards for a while, a visit here promises to be as authentic as it gets, providing you with the cultural fix you are craving!

At Matcha House, guests can hang out all night in the buzzing café, dining at Japanese-styled pine seating on the floor (that’s right, you’ll have to take off your shoes). If ground seating isn’t your thing, you also have the option of table and bench seating.

If you haven’t tried Matcha before, here’s the tea:

The finely ground green powder, is rich in antioxidants and healing properties, with its unique flavour still popular in modern culture. It tastes smooth, roasted and sweet (but not too sweet!). Matcha tradition dates back nearly a thousand years and is an integral part of Japanese culture.

Everything from the menu at Matcha House is unique and green, from the Matcha-cino, Matcha Bubble-Tea, Matcha Lattes and Green-Tea Mocktails as well as Japanese Sake, Whiskey and other alcoholic Matcha beverages.

The desserts on offer, such as the Matcha Lava Cake, Mochi candy and Ice-cream parfait, are sweet, gooey and – you guessed it – also green. And, if you leave the café feeling inspired, Matcha House encourages you to make these recipes at home, selling premium green tea picked from the fields of Shizuoka, Kagoshima and Fukuoka in Japan. The shop also sells a range of prize-winning alcohol and Matcha powder, also available at their online store.
