Matt Clinch’s new Grandstand role for SA

ABC Local Radio has announced that Matt Clinch will join the South Australian ABC Grandstand team in December, filling the void left by the retirement of 40-year veteran Roger Wills.

Matt Clinch has been working with the ABC since 2006, contributing to ABC Local Radio, ABC News and more recently has split his time between ABC Grandstand and ABC TV Sport. Matt commentated his first AFL match on ABC Grandstand with Roger in 2008. Since then, his voice has become well known to listeners of ABC Grandstand AFL. He received the prestigious Clinton Grybas ‘rising star’ award from the Australian Football Media Association in 2009, his first year of full time calling.

Matt says “Adelaide has a great sporting culture and I’m thrilled to be joining the ABC Grandstand team, I had the privilege to call alongside Roger Wills who was great mentor at the start of my career. I look forward to the exciting new challenge and working alongside Peter Walsh.”

Peter Walsh says “Matt’s abilities in both broadcasting and production will be great assets to our small team. I’m excited about the prospect of Matt joining us in Adelaide.”

Craig Norenbergs, Manager ABC Grandstand says “Matt is a young man with enormous ability and I’m pleased to welcome him on a full time basis into the ABC Grandstand team. He’ll become as much a part of Adelaide in the coming years as Roger was.”

Matt’s duties will include co-presenting SA Grandstand with Peter Walsh on weekends, as well as providing commentary of sport in SA including domestic and international cricket, AFL, SANFL, A-League, NBL Basketball, the Tour Down Under and Netball.

ABC Grandstand can be heard nationally on ABC Local Radio, streamed at abc.net.au/grandstand, and is available on ABC Grandstand Digital Radio in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney, and Perth.
