Gourmet meets goodwill at ‘Flourish,’ a special dining event which will help support new South Australian mothers in need of assistance and hope.
Presented by Chefs on Wheels, this purpose-driven dinner will be held at Victoria Park Social and will directly support charitable organisation The Village Co, which nurtures and provides new mums with the resources they need to flourish.
Steering the evening’s entertainment will be food critic Matt Preston, who also wears the hats of a journalist, author, and well-loved TV and Radio Presenter- you will likely recognise him from his role as a Masterchef judge.
The culinary line-up features renowned chefs such as Paul Baker, formerly of Botanic Restaurant and a Chefs on Wheels cofounder, Jake Kellie of Arkhe, and Jessie Spiby, a Masterchef standout and the brains behind cafe My Grandma Ben.
The chefs will be working their magic to whip up dishes that are as aesthetically delightful as they are scrumptious, ensuring both your heart and stomach leave full. And what’s fine dining without fine wine? Each dish will be accompanied by a perfectly paired wine to elevate every bite.
To keep the vibe upbeat, guests can look forward to an evening of lively entertainment, some foot-tapping dance numbers, and a dedicated gin and whisky bar.
The Village Co helps new South Australian mothers navigating challenging times and has been working tirelessly to ensure these mothers, often under the strain of poverty, domestic violence, and homelessness, don’t feel overwhelmed or unprepared as they leave the hospital with their newborns.
In the past year alone, The Village Co has extended support to nearly 941 South Australian mothers, which averages out to about 90 every month. Their efforts have been bolstered by 192 committed volunteers who have packed over 700 gift bags for these mothers. Generosity has poured in, with more than $300,000 worth of in-kind donations.
The organisation provides essential care packs with nappies, baby clothes, wipes, breast pads, and more. They also provide manual breast pumps and vouchers for pre-made meals for a week, supported by Chefs on Wheels.
Through the dedication of midwives and social workers across South Australia, The Village Co identifies and aids families at their most vulnerable moments.
“Flourish will be a magnificent dining experience and aims to raise awareness and funds to support the valuable work that The Village Co does for new mothers in South Australia who require assistance and care during their early motherhood journey,” The Village Co CEO Stephanie Malan says.
Chefs on Wheels Co-Founder Paul Baker is the driving force behind this event concept and rallied
his industry peers to volunteer their time for the event. Paul also has the support of many South Australian food and beverage businesses involved in the night.
“I couldn’t be prouder to be part of this event… Chefs on Wheels has been providing new mothers
with a week’s worth of meals for over a year now, in partnership with The Village Co,” Paul says.
“This event is a celebration on how far we have come in a short amount of time, and a showcase of
just how far this initiative can go to support some of the most vulnerable in our community when
they need it most.”
Attendees are encouraged to add a touch of pink to their cocktail attire to celebrate the beauty and vitality of motherhood.
