Matthew and the Atlas ‘Other Rivers’ – New Album Out Now!

MATT_662x220Matthew Hegarty of Matthew and the Atlas has been making music with the folk of Communion Music since circa 2010 – a label founded by Ben Lovett (Mumford & Sons), Kevin Jones (Bear’s Den) and acclaimed producer Ian Grimble. Hegarty has released two EPs of dreamy, textured Americana on Communion – two of the label’s first ever releases back in 2011, paving the way for the likes of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, The Trouble with Templeton and Daughter.

Australia’s first taste of Matthew and the Atlas was `Another Way’, a track featuring guest vocals from Hegarty’s friend Matt Corby. The two Matt’s first met at an intimate show at Cafe Ravenous on London’s Portobello Road in 2011, and have been musical friends ever since. ‘Another Way’ mixes Hegarty’s rumble with eerie harmonies by Corby’s familiar tone. Listen to ‘Another Way’ HERE‘Pale Sun Rose’, the second single from the album ‘Other Rivers’ has received high acclaim from fans and media alike in his native UK, including picking up the coveted ‘Next Hype’ slot from Radio 1’s Zane Lowe. Taking the single on the road in January this year, Matthew and the Atlas sold out venues from London to Liverpool.

The official video for ‘Pale Sun Rose’ features Charlie Cox (Stardust, Boardwalk Empire) as a loner fisherman who’s day to day routine takes a dark turn when he comes across his doppelgänger. Watch the video HERE

Building on the rousing choruses and warm melodies of earlier releases, Matthew and the Atlas’ ‘Other Rivers’ brings in more electronic layers and, offer a darker and more expansive lyrical take on his previous works’ collision of the pastoral and the personal – all filtered through Hegarty’s extraordinary low, rumbling vocal.

Other Rivers is released in Australia today – April 11 – via Communion / Kobalt.
