Dessert lovers, you’re in for a treat that’s centuries in the making. Two of South Australia’s most loved family-owned brands, Beerenberg and Mayfair Bakery, have teamed up for a delicious collaboration with the launch of two limited-edition cheesecake flavours.
Bringing together over 341 years of combined history, the partnership is a sweet celebration of tradition and evolution, and a long-held dream of Mayfair’s owner and head baker, Phil Donnelly.
“Working with Beerenberg has always been a goal,” he shares.
“They’re such an iconic South Australian business. I put the idea to them about a cheesecake because it’s been incredibly popular and the produce lends itself to what we do. We’re both historic artisan producers.”
Incredibly popular is an understatement, the bakery made around five hundred and fifty thousand last year!

The co-creation offers two distinctly delightful flavours. There’s a strawberry and vanilla bean for lovers of the classics, and a zesty baked lemon and lime for those after a little more zest and zing.
To entice the palate and the stomach, Phil describes the strawberry and vanilla bean as tasting “almost like a strawberries and cream.”
“It has a velvety smooth cream cheese texture, not too sweet, and you can really taste the authenticity of the strawberries. It’s not an artificial jammy sweetness, it’s rich with vanilla bean and has a beautiful, natural strawberry burst,” he elaborates.
For Phil, using Beerenberg strawberries was a no brainer, being just as iconic as the brand itself.
“It’s like Mayfair and the Port,” he laughs.
But the lemon and lime combo came from a more spontaneous spark of inspiration.
“I was trying one of their lemon lime products at home with some ice cream,” he says, “and I thought, ‘This would be amazing as a cheesecake.’ And from there, it just kind of snowballed.”
The cheesecakes are uniquely Mayfair, using a special “secret” process and crafted baseless, so they have the tick of approval for our gluten-free friends.
The collab not only gives sweet lovers an excuse to indulge, but also marks a story of legacy.
Beerenberg Farm has been family-run since 1839 and is now operated by the sixth generation of the Paech family. Known for its jams, pickles, and sauces, it’s a household name and a childhood staple for many South Australians. I remember frequenting the farm growing up, hunting for the juiciest strawberries to take home, if the box even made it that far.

Mayfair Bakery is also steeped in a charming and long history. First opened in 1870 as part the first set of shops in Port Adelaide, it has passed through generations of hands before being taken over by the Donnelly family in 2014.

The cheesecakes will undoubtably be a sweet trip down a nostalgic memory lane, and that’s exactly what the team-up is all about.
“It’s for that experience. Everyone has a core memory of Beerenberg and picking strawberries as a kid and so many people have core memories of eating Mayfair as a kid. This is two iconic memories of people’s youth combining,” reflects Phil.
This launch also coincides with Mayfair’s recent expansion into independent supermarkets. Since introducing the gluten-free baked cheesecake in July last year, the product has become a fast favourite. It’s now stocked in Tony & Mark’s, Drakes, Foodland, and IGAs across the state, and even made its way into NSW stores.
Mayfair’s signature cheesecakes will also roll out across its extensive wholesale network, so fans can expect to spot them at their favourite cafés and restaurants soon.
From the strawberry fields of Hahndorf to the ovens of Port Adelaide, this collaboration is a celebration of everything that makes South Australian food culture so special – quality, heritage, and a deep sense of community.
The limited-edition cheesecakes are available now at all Tony & Mark’s and select Foodlands and official launch party is on the way with details to be announced soon!
