Port Adelaide favourite Mayfair Bakery & Patisserie have been a firm favourite amongst locals and visitors alike for over 150 years, serving up a selection of sweet and savoury treats, and building up a cult-following.
Those looking to satisfy a savoury craving will be delighted to learn of Mayfair Bakery’s kransky of the Month, which for the month of October is a Supreme Pizza kransky. It’s cheesy, smoked and has all your favourites throughout the sausage, there’s even chucks of olive and pineapple too.
The masterpiece is created in partnership with local butchers, Costello’s Smallgoods, who are a meat wholesaler and provide the quality pork. It’s all wrapped in Mayfair’s flaky butter puff pastry. The smallgood’s producers are offering and supporting the local business and collaborating to create creative spins on the traditional dish.
Previously they’ve created a smoked Thai kransky with soy sauce, lombok and sesame oil, last month was tantalising smoked pork, jalepeno, and cheese, and the month before that a delicious ‘Bourbon Barrel Steak Shooter’.
The bakery and patisserie is also known for its incredible cheesecakes and tarts which are award-winning. Last month they picked up two new ribbons at the Adelaide Royal Show, which is a pretty big feat as it was the first competition the brand had entered in its 153 years of trading.
Mayfair Bakery & Patisserie won third prize in the best individual decorated tart and third place for best gluten-free free choice. A lot of the recipes have been handed down fron generations of families and its recipes are a gourmet take on traditional Australian pastries.
The bakery origins date back to 1870, when soon to be elected Mayor of Port Adelaide David Bower (1812 – 1898), commissioned and built what is now known as the Bower Buildings. In this group of heritage shop fronts, the bakery was founded and continues to operate as a bakery.
It continues to operate as one of Adelaide’s oldest and most loved bakeries, but now has a modern twist adding new options to their menu. Gluten-free customers often flock to the Mayfair for their incredible coeliac baked cheesecakes, as well as vegans with a growing range of baked fresh and decorated by hand vegan goods.
