McCarthy’s Orchard Cellar Door set to reopen in McLaren Vale following revamp

McLaren Vale’s McCarthy’s Orchard is set to reopen its expanded cellar door to increase capacity for its wine tastings and functions.

Set within a beautiful Orchard in the Adelaide wine region, McLaren Vale’s McCarthy’s Orchard is set to reopen its expanded cellar door in three weeks time, with an extension of another venue space at the back of the building.

Known for its 75-year-old vines as well as its on-sight and authentically handmade winemaking process, the venue is looking to expand its name in the industry. Owner and grower, Mark McCarthy, said there was a much needed improvement to the building for the winter months and to better facilitate wine tastings and functions.

The new space is set to match in with the venue’s rustic exterior and interior with tin roofs, cane pendent lighting, wooden decor, farm style decor, antique furniture and more.

Every Friday to Monday from 11am to 5pm you’ll can find the cellar door venue open to the public for business, offering up a bit of something for everyone. They offer $15 wine tastings as well as wines by the glass or bottles sold direct along with their own Pear and Apple ciders and a range of beers on tap.

You can pair McCarthy’s wines selection with one of their wood oven pizza’s, Apple or Pear Toasties, cheese platters or Dukkah.

For those who may be unfamiliar with McCarthy Orchard, the family owned and run boutique business has been producing quality wines and Cider to Adelaide for the past sixteen years.

Established on 75-year-old vines, some of the oldest in the region, McCarthy’s wine making process is conducted completely on-sight and authentically handmade.

McCarthy’s Orchard wine range varies from a 75-year-old Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Nero D’avola, Grenache, Touriga Nacional and a Arinto with many more which are further cultivated off of the property’s large variation in soil types allowing for a contrast in flavour across the wines.

The family also produces Limoncello, a Plum Liquor, a Fortified Shiraz, and Apply Cider Vinegar along with a range of fruit and vegetables from their land.

It makes their produce unique as customers can buy direct from where everything is grown and made.

Mark McCarthy in order to broaden his knowledge of wine making, often travels every year from Western Australia to Tasmania to visit larger wineries, allowing him the opportunity to learn more about the art of wine making, the varieties, vine health and grafting.

The next weekend you have free, take a trip down to McCarthy’s Orchard and visit Mark and his family, indulging in the authentic wine range and take a bottle home, feast on a wood oven pizza’s and maybe take home a mug from his wife’s handmade collection of ceramics.
