McLaren Automotive takes to the streets of Adelaide this week, with its 720S Spider and GT joining the annual Adelaide Rally.

Taking place within the stunning Adelaide Hills, Fleurieu Peninsula and the Adelaide Central Business District, the four-day rally takes place from 24-27 March, and is a glorious spectacle in celebration of the best of automotive engineering. In 2019 the event featured 324 entries, making it the largest event of its type in the Southern Hemisphere.

Behind the wheel for McLaren this year is jazz musician, James Morrison, in addition to media personality, Mark Soderstrom. In a rare opportunity for this year’s Rally, McLaren opened to auction the navigation seat for its Super Series vehicle, the 720S Spider. Purchased by an Adelaide Business, proceeds of the auction will be donated to the Prostate Cancer Foundation.

“We’re delighted that McLaren is once again represented as the 720S Spider and GT takes to the streets as part of the Adelaide Rally. When we developed the 720S Spider, there was one goal in mind, to bring the same nerve tingling rush of experiencing our Super Series with the added thrill of open-top driving. While the GT was a bold McLaren that is set to bring the best of everyday driving to our owners. Undoubtedly, I’m sure the Adelaide rally drivers will enjoy this memorable experience,” says George Biggs, Managing Director, Asia Pacific and China, McLaren Automotive

The McLaren GT is a unique supercar for McLaren owners seeking to drive their car every day, featuring a beautiful lightweight body and outstanding ride comfort and cabin refinement, with enhanced practicality for everyday use. Sleek, elegant and muscular and superlight, the GT offers a compelling blend of beautiful design, high-quality innovative materials and exceptional refinement in combination with true supercar performance and the benchmark driving dynamics and engagement for which McLaren is renowned.

The McLaren 720S Spider is a model which perfectly combines unrestrained supercar performance with incredible everyday usability. Combining the true athleticism of Sport or Track mode with Comfort mode for performance on all types of roads or tracks, the 720S Spider delivers the exhilaration of open-air driving and levels of day-to-day usability unseen in the convertible supercar class, and is hand-assembled to maximise downforce, minimise drag, enhance powertrain cooling and optimise aerodynamic performance.

Elsewhere, the McLaren Elva in Gulf Livery Show Car continues its Australian tour, arriving in Adelaide just in time for the rally event. Epitomising the best in automotive design and engineering, the model will be on display at McLaren Adelaide on Monday 29th March.

The McLaren Elva Gulf Theme by McLaren Special Operations (MSO) is a celebration of the renewed partnership between McLaren and Gulf Oil. The livery was created to celebrate the renewed partnership between Gulf Oil and McLaren Automotive, which first ran from the late 1960s until the early 1970s. Styled on the iconic Gulf Livery first seen on the #24 F1 GTR, this scheme played an instrumental role in McLaren’s 1-3-4-5 victory at the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans. Placing this design on an Elva is a purposeful nod to the roadster’s commitment to performance and heritage.
