McLaren Vale’s Fox Creek Wines wins Best Shiraz Trophy at London’s International Wine & Spirit Competition

The 2009 Fox Creek Reserve Shiraz has won the Trophy for Best Shiraz/Syrah at arguably the most prestigious wine show in the world, the International Wine and Spirit Competition in London.

This prestigious award comes on top of two Trophies and 14 Gold Medals awarded to six different Fox Creek wines at international wine shows in the past eight weeks.

Fox Creek’s icon wine, the Reserve Shiraz was first made in 1994.  Grapes for this wine come from premium McLaren Vale vineyards with a range of soil types chosen to give the final wine structure and complexity.  After fermentation the wine was matured for 20 months in new and one year old oak barrels.  The final blend has a rich sweet fruit mid palate and long finish.  While approachable when young, the 2009 Fox Creek Reserve Shiraz will reward cellaring.

Fox Creek senior winemaker, Scott Zrna said, “The 2009 wines continue to reward us by improving as they mature in bottle and the Reserve Shiraz is the prime example of this.  We thought it was a good wine when we bottled it, but over time we have seen it open up and grow into an amazingly elegant, balanced and finessed wine, showing flavour and complexity on many levels.”

The announcement of the International Wine and Spirit Competition results come after Fox Creek 2010 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon won the Judges Award for the Best Cabernet Sauvignon in Class 14 at the South Australian Wine of the Year Awards last month

On top of these fabulous endorsements Fox Creek also received three Gold and three Silver medals at the 2012 AWC Vienna Wine Awards.  Followed by one Gold and three Silver medals at the 2012 Mundus Vini International Wine Awards in Germany; a Champion’s listing and staggering five Gold, two Silver and one Bronze in the 2012 New Zealand International Wine Show; one Gold, three Silver and two Bronze in the 2012 Japan Wine Challenge and three Gold in the 2012 Berliner Wine “Summer” Trophy competition.

Fox Creek Chief Executive, Paul Rogers finds it very rewarding for the nearly seventeen year-old brand to be continuously recognised for its quality.  “We enter International Wine Shows so that we can compete on the world stage to benchmark Fox Creek as a highly competitive, global brand.  We strive to make exceptional wines that offer value for money so to win such an array of awards for several of our wines makes it all worthwhile.”
