We’ve all dreamt of quitting our day jobs to follow our hearts but the fear of the unknown and the risk of failure usually holds us back but not Lauren Bishop. After struggling to find her passion in previous roles, she decided to take her career into her own hands and start her own café.
“I had a string of jobs that just weren’t filling my cup and would just constantly think about going off and doing my own thing in something that I enjoy, so that’s what I did,” she explains.
Roping in her good friend, Britt McKay, the pair opened McLaren Vale’s grooviest new coffee spot, Someday Soon. Operating on the grounds of Sabella Vineyards Cellar Door, Lauren and Britt have breathed new life into the brick exterior of the building creating the perfect spot among the gum trees to enjoy a cuppa Joe.
And a guilt-free one at that, with Someday Soon serving its takeaway coffee in edible coffee cups! The only place on the Fleurieu Peninsula to do so, the edible cups are made from oats and grains and dipped in chocolate that can then be eaten once you’ve finished!
Since its opening in mid-October, the girls have had an incredible response, particularly from the local community, but admit it was a scary move.
“It was absolutely terrifying quitting my job and going into the unknown,” says Lauren. “You know I’ve got a mortgage, I’ve got bills so leaving the security of a stable job took a lot of courage but something inside me just told me it was the right thing to do and take the leap and if it doesn’t work then it doesn’t work but at least I tried.”
Serving arguably some of the best coffee in the region as well as a collection of croissants and sweet treats, Lauren and Britt have started small but have big plans for the future. Mat Pilates, Mimosa Saturdays and mini markets are all on the cards, living up to their mission statement of bringing a fun, different vibe to the Vale.
“Customer service is really important to us and for our customers to have a nice time. We wanted the space to have a vibe and for people to come and enjoy themselves and make connections.”
Operating from 7am Tuesday – Sunday, Lauren and Britt look forward to seeing you Someday Soon.
