A beloved rural South Australian butcher shop has suffered a devastating fire, prompting a flood of financial support from the local community.
Six trucks and approximately 20 firefighters were needed when the fire broke out in the ceiling of Meadows Country Meats on 12 November, which threatened the adjoining residential property.
Thankfully, no one was hurt but according to the South Australian Country Fire Service, the damage has been estimated at $200,000 – devastating blow to the small, family-owned business.
Following the news on the Meadows Country Meats Facebook page, the post has garnered more than 100 comments of support.
Meadows Skin and Beauty immediately responded with “I would like to help you and your family out by donating half of my profits this week to you!”
Meadow’s resident Michael Mahar has created a mycause fundraising page to help butcher Angus (Gus) Robertson, his wife, Ashlee, and two-year-old son, Flynn.
The fundraising page is getting fantastic support, with comments such as: “If there’s anything we can do please don’t hesitate to sing out!! You guys do so much for the community so I’m sure there will be a line up to help you guys out.” But they need your help to keep the business open.
So far, the fundraiser has raised more than $10,000, but the family has a long way to go before the business can reopen. This is especially unfortunate, considering Meadows Country Meats had just enjoyed its reopening in April following significant renovations of the 1937 building.
