Tucked away in the Adelaide Hills lies The Uraidla Hotel – the heartbeat of the vibrant yet quaint Uraidla township the pub presides over.

After undergoing a massive four-year renovation and re-opening in 2016, the iconic pub is a must-visit gem amongst the rolling Hills landscape.

Whether you’re looking for a Summer watering hole or a cosy place to curl up by the fire in Winter, The Uraidla Hotel is the perfect place for a classic pub feed year-round.

“We’re a whole republic for people to experience all sorts of things,” says Uraidla Proprietor Julie Peter.

“We try to be a hub [for the community]. We are bringing the local community together, and we purchase as much as we can locally.”

You immediately feel welcomed when walking through the doors of the pub, with the high-timber framework and exposed stonewalls of the Uraidla Hotel radiating plenty of rustic charm. While a banner claiming ‘Uradila’s Worst Pub’ proudly hangs off the balcony, a visit to the hotel is anything but.

Indulge in quintessential pub meals like chicken schnitzels and loaded burgers as you enjoy a fresh pint of Uradlia’s pale ale brew, Cosmic Labyrinth.

Head Chef Anna Kittle and her talented culinary team have also revamped the hotel’s menu, just in time for the warmer weather.

With a newly built smokehouse at the back of the pub, guests can expect plenty of smokey treats to star on the new list. For Julie, her favourite is the five-hour smoked chicken in a lemon and coriander brine, with plenty of fresh veg framing the ‘tender and tasty’ chook.

For those searching for lighter bites, plenty of grazing boards starring local produce and fresh-baked bread from Uraidla’s Bakery feature on the new menu. Step outside into the bustling garden and bask in the glorious sunshine, nibbling away at the delectable meats and cheeses.

There’s good news too if you’re a craft beer lover – The Uraidla proudly brews their own, with an impressive 11 homebrewed beers on tap.

“What I like about it is that it’s an extension of your own home. I like it to be cosy and warm…and filled with familiar Australian things,” says Julie.

“There’s a lot to build on that represents the community, the area and what brings people through the pub.”

Adjacent to the historic hotel resides the Uraidla Bakery and Brewery, transforming the Adelaide Hills destination into a bustling community and hub for locals and visitors alike.

With tall glass windows exposing the inner workings of the Uraidla brewery and bakery, guests are invited a look into the hard (and tasty) work and craftsmanship behind the iconic produce.

“It’s really quite great to watch the brewers making the beer and the bakers baking the bread,” says Julie.

“It makes it local and authentic and very hands-on.”

While The Uraidla Hotel reads well on paper, their excellence is well documented – taking home the 2021 AHA Award for Redeveloped Hotel (Metropolitan) and Employee Excellence in Service awarded to Uraidla’s General Manager, Heath Johansen. The team also received a Judges Commendation for their environmental practice.

“My favourite thing about the Uraidla Hotel is my team. I have an amazing team of dedicated workers… We’re very much a family, and that goes back to the original working of pubs and the communities they had,” says Julie.

“We are all about community – I’d like to think that’s the best thing we do.”
