This week Megan Park showed her AW12 collection at L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival.
Megan Park is an Australian-based fashion designer whose eponymous Women’s, Accessories, Home and Girl collections are sold in the best department stores and boutiques worldwide. Her inimitable aesthetic is a hybrid of contemporary silhouettes and old-world artistry in sophisticated fabrications.
In staying true to the label’s design ethos, dreamlike watercolour prints and intricate, yet modern embroideries make up the AW12 Megan Park collection.
This season, shapes are designed to sit off the body – easy, relaxed and free flowing, the waist defined with a soft belt, creating clean and elegant lines.
Jackets and coats embody a more ‘tailored’ look, with structured shoulders and strong embellished designs reminiscent of Megan’s regular travels to old Delhi, India.
Simple tank dresses, pussy bow blouses and soft lounge trousers encapsulate the remainder of the collection in an array of motifs and texture.
Several key prints, in warm hues of smoky quartz and mocha, as well as stark tones of jet, graphite and indigo form the basis of the AW12 collection.
Designed and constructed in-house, Megan Park references favourite paintings and archived embroideries in the feature Wilden print – a softer translation of which can also be seen in the dreamlike, watercolour Floral Maze and Palm prints.
The Rishi and Pani prints transcend the delicate motif of water and nature into a soft, wearable day print, offered in a range of textures and tones.
Once again, the Megan Park collection entails a jewellery component. Shades of topaz and turquoise are contrasted by jet-black accents in what is described by Megan as the “most delicate and refined” accessories range to date.
Intricate mosaic patterns are seen in neckpieces and bangles, and oversized crystals and stone droplets adorn clutch bags.
Typical of a Megan Park collection, the AW12 range incorporates a wide array of influences, allowing the wearer to make it her own.
