Megan Washington & Paul Grabowsky: One Night Only

meganAward winning vocalist Megan Washington and Australian jazz luminary Paul Grabowsky return to the Adelaide Festival Centre for a one night only performance, after their sold out success at the 2008 Adelaide Cabaret Festival.

Blessed with a sublime voice and musical maturity beyond her years, Brisbane singer/songwriter Megan Washington is recognised as a major talent in the Australian music scene, both through her work with indie band Washington, and as a solo artist.

Having performed with artists such as The Beautiful Girls, Ben Lee, Tim Finn and a series of collaborations with the likes of Woody Allen’s New Orleans Jazz Band, Washington is a spinner of tales, telling stories that create a world within a world.

With influences ranging from Paul Simon to Billie Holiday and Leonard Cohen to Radiohead, Washington’s work crosses a range of styles, from country and folk to song structures reminiscent of Kate Bush.

On Saturday 4 September, Washington will be joined by multi-award winning pianist, composer and conductor of international renown, Paul Grabowsky. Artistic Director of the Adelaide Festival 2010 & 2012 and founder of the Australian Art Orchestra, Grabowsky has built a critically acclaimed reputation of commitment and integrity.

Revisiting the collaboration that won over audiences at the 2008 Adelaide Cabaret Festival, Washington and Grabowsky will once again push the boundaries of contemporary jazz, folk and indie, yet in a more intimate setting.

With a partnership described as the strawberries and cream of the music world, expect an evening blessed with Washington’s beautiful voice which naturally floats from note to note through poetic lyrics woven between the brilliance of Grabowsky’s masterful keystrokes and inherent musicality.

While in Adelaide, Megan Washington will present a songwriting workshop exclusive to Adelaide Festival Centre’s GreenRoom members. GreenRoom is Adelaide Festival Centre’s premier arts membership for people aged 30 and under, offering excellent incentives including discounts to Festival Centre events, forums, workshops and competitions.
