Melbourne’s Absurd Circus brings high-flying comedy to Adelaide Fringe debut

In a debut at the Adelaide Fringe Festival, Melbourne-based comedy circus and physical theatre troupe, Absurd Circus, is bringing “Sunday Cup of Absurdi-tea” to Fools Paradise.

In a debut at the Adelaide Fringe Festival, Melbourne-based comedy circus and physical theatre troupe, Absurd Circus, is all set to excite audiences at The Vault in Fools Paradise from February 20th to February 25th.

Featuring their acclaimed production, “Sunday Cup of Absurdi-tea,” this dynamic group promises an unforgettable experience that blends storytelling, acrobatics, and comedy into a seamless spectacle.

Having garnered rave reviews during its premiere at Gasworks Arts Park in Melbourne back in June 2023, “Sunday Cup of Absurdi-tea” has quickly become a must-see show, exploring themes of companionship and support amidst life’s absurdities.

According to Rindi Harradine, co-founder of Absurd Circus, the show aims to portray the essence of being each other’s “crashmat,” combining intimate narratives with breathtaking physical feats.

“There’s absurd aerial sandwich making, hallway hula couture, demonic dance-trapeze, and juggling in the dark after getting slapped in the face with a piece of cheese. Imagine sequins and tea, high stakes acrobatics, and heartfelt authenticity,” Harradine says.

What sets Absurd Circus apart is not just their comedic flair but also their impressive pedigree.

Many of the cast members have honed their skills at the esteemed National Institute of Circus Arts and have previously wowed audiences with productions like “Barbaroi,” which earned the title of Best Circus at the Adelaide Fringe in 2021. Their collective experience, coupled with a dedication to innovative choreography and storytelling, promises a performance that is both slick and beautiful.

For audiences craving a unique blend of laughter, awe, and heartfelt moments, “Sunday Cup of Absurdi-tea” offers an unforgettable experience. As Absurd Circus brings their Melbourne magic to Adelaide, prepare to be whisked away on a journey that is as absurd as it is delightful.

Sunday Cup of Absurdi-tea will perform at Adelaide Fringe from 20–25 February 2024 at the Vault in Fool’s Paradise (Victoria Square).
