Members of SA libraries can now join monthly online events hosted by best-selling authors Maya Linnell and Ben Hobson

SA residents can now attend monthly online events hosted by best-selling authors through a new initiative.

As more and more Australians access books, magazines and other library resources on their smartphone or tablet, a new initiative developed by library platform Overdrive for their Libby reading app allows members of participating libraries to join online community events each month for free.

Several public libraries around the state are participating in the initiative.

This Wednesday, March 16, Library Lovers with Maya Linnell will launch. Taking place on the third Wednesday of every month, the program will be hosted by best-selling author Maya Linnell. Each online event features a series of guests, including an author, a lifestyle expert and a local librarian.

During this discussion, attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions, interact with the guests, and enjoy a light-hearted engaging conversation with industry leaders about books, gardening, and cooking.

The first event, taking place on Wednesday March 16, begins at 6:30 p.m. (ACDT), with a star-studded line-up including Gardening Australia editor Jenny Baldwin and cookbook guru Sophie Hansen.

A free monthly book club, Ben’s Book Club, hosted by best-selling author Ben Hobson, will also launch on Tuesday, March 22, at 6:30 p.m. It will take place on the fourth Tuesday of every month thereafter. Each month Ben will be in conversation with a different author.

During the event, guests will have the opportunity to ask questions, interact with the authors, and enjoy a well-rounded bookish discussion. Participating library card holders can now borrow the first book chosen for Ben’s Book Club with no waiting or holds on the Libby Reading app. This month’s title is ‘The Cane’ and Maryrose Cuskelly will join Ben Hobson.

The Libby Reading app allows users to access a catalogue of digital books and magazines free of charge. It’s compatible on all devices with iOS 10+ and Android 5.0+. If you have a Windows computer, Mac computer, or a Chromebook, you can use Libby in your web browser at libbyapp.com. It is recommended to use the latest version of Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Edge.
