If you’re interested to share your compassion, resilience and hope with a teen struggling with their wellbeing, the Raise Foundation are urgently looking for mentors to help out at schools in South Australia.
The Raise Foundation aims to build resilience, self-confidence, and purpose, all while supporting the well-being of as many young people as possible.
This program equips young people with the tools, skills and resources they need to support their mental health, social and emotional wellbeing and engagement with school.
Empowered to use these skills, teenagers can navigate the complexity of adolescence and the challenges life may throw at them.
But this can’t be done without the wonderful support of thousands of volunteers and youth mentors.
Raise are currently looking for more amazing volunteer mentors to work with young adults before applications close in April.
There are 13 schools in South Australia running the Raise youth mentoring program this year with mentors from the community who support students throughout the program.
The commitment requires volunteers to help out two hours per week from April to November.
Programs are run on the same day and time every week, with one hour for mentoring and one hour committed to mentor discussion, support and additional training.
No experience is required as Raise prides itself on offering the best training and support for its volunteers, where mentors receive a 3-hour online training and 1 full day (or 2 x half days) of group mentor training.
Most importantly, each program is run by a qualified counsellor who leads weekly school-based sessions as well as look after and manage the school, the group of mentors and the mentees.
Volunteers from the program agree that this program not only supports adolescents, but also benefits mentors themselves.
“I would have benefited from this as a teenager and it’s lovely to give your time to someone else,” says June, a youth mentor.
If you see yourself changing an adolescent’s life, community volunteer mentors allow Raise to deliver in–school early intervention programs and offer much-needed one-on-one support to young people.
