Mercure Kangaroo Island Lodge has been acquired by leading South Australian hotel management company, 1834 Hotels.

Overlooking the tranquil ocean waters of picturesque American River, and surrounded by an abundance of native wildlife and flora, Mercure Kangaroo Island Lodge is a 4 star resort-style property featuring 38 guest rooms, a restaurant, swimming pool, event spaces, and a range of other amenities.

Currently managing a wide network of hotels and resorts across Australia, 1834 Hotels will both own and operate the lodge, retaining an established alignment with the Mercure brand.

1834 Hotels has also had strong prior experience on Kangaroo Island, having previously managed a hotel in nearby Kingscote, with CEO Andrew Bullock expressing his enthusiasm to be returning to the Island.

“Kangaroo Island is one Australia’s truly iconic tourism destinations … with its stunning landscapes, diverse wildlife, and proud, hospitable Island community”, Mr Bullock said.

“We have been seeking a hotel investment here for some time now, and Mercure Kangaroo Island Lodge, given its unique character, desirable location and high growth potential, is just perfect”.

“The surrounding community is an important part of this objective, and, as well as seeking to attract visitors from far and wide, we will ensure that the lodge retains a local character and heartbeat”.

1834 Hotels Managing Partner, Leigh Kentwell says 2022 will be an important period for KI, with a surge in demand for domestic travellers wanting holidays closer to home.

“Then, a little further down the line, international travel will re-bound in earnest, and we are well aware of the appeal that Kangaroo Island holds for key markets such as Europe, the US and Asia”, Mr Kentwell said.

“As the new owners of Mercure Kangaroo Island Lodge, 1834 Hotels will be getting to work straight away. We have a number of exciting property upgrades and initiatives planned, ensuring the lodge is best placed to accommodate this increased demand.”

The company has recently taken on accommodation management of a number of SA hotels including, Quality Adelaide Central Apartments in the city, Bridgeport Hotel in Murray Bridge, The Anchorage at Victor Harbor, and KT Apartments in Kent Town.
