Metallica rallies Aussie fans to donate blood with exclusive tour t-shirt giveaway

Metallica has partnered with Australian Red Cross Lifeblood for a unique blood donation campaign, offering limited-edition t-shirts designed by SQUINDO to donors during their Australian tour stops.

Metallica is turning up the volume on blood donation, teaming up with Australian Red Cross Lifeblood during their upcoming Australian tour to spotlight the lifesaving power of blood and plasma donors.

The partnership, supported by Metallica’s foundation All Within My Hands, will see donors who give blood or plasma in selected CBD donor centres in the week leading up to each show, receive a limited-edition Metallica t-shirt, designed exclusively by the band’s artist, SQUINDO.

The design — featuring the lyric “A Sea of Hearts Beat As One” within a blood drop alongside a nod to Aussie Metallica fans — is only available to those signed up to Lifeblood’s loyalty program, Lifeblood Gifts.

Donation windows include: Perth (Oct 25–31), Adelaide (Oct 29–Nov 4), Melbourne (Nov 1–7), Brisbane (Nov 5–11), and Sydney (Nov 8–14).

Cath Stone, Executive Director of Donor Experience at Lifeblood, said the organisation was thrilled to join forces with one of the world’s biggest bands.

“Metallica and their foundation’s commitment to making every tour stop a better place, by rallying fans to donate blood and plasma, is a selfless act that will have a lifesaving impact on so many individuals and their families,” she said.

“With demand for blood at a 12-year-high and plasma demand at record levels, we hope this partnership will fuel an influx of Metallica fan donors that we can welcome home to our donor centres. Don’t let blood donation be the day that never comes, because when you’re saving lives, nothing else matters.”

This isn’t the band’s first time putting blood donation on centre stage. During their M72 World Tour in the US, Metallica and All Within My Hands helped the American Red Cross collect more than 2,000 blood and platelet donations.

Every blood donation can save up to three lives, helping patients living with cancer and immune deficiencies, new mothers, trauma patients and those undergoing surgery.

And yes, even if you’ve got fresh ink, you can donate: plasma immediately after a tattoo (done at a licensed parlour) and blood or platelets just one week later.
