Monarto Safari Park’s new Visitor is about to open its doors, being a major boost for tourism and jobs, and elevating animal lovers’ experience at Monarto.
Due to open in March, the up and coming Monarto Safari Park visitor centre will be the first major milestone of three.
The $11.25 million from the Australian Government and the $4.5 million from the State Government has made it possible for the Safari Park to enrich the experience of its visitors.
CEO of Zoos SA Elaine Bensted said she is excited about the opening and how simple the new centre will make planning family days.
“The architecturally designed building, by local architectural firms Intro and Studio-gram, includes an indoor and outdoor cafe, nature play spaces, retail and plenty of parking as well as a fantastic view across Monarto’s plains,” said Ms Bensted.
The centre will have the capacity to welcome an additional 55,000 people per year, enabling 89 ongoing jobs to be offered.
Premier Marshall commented on the upgrade late last year, stating its increased capacity is crucially important for SA and will mean “more investment for the local region, our state and more jobs”.
The completion of phases two and three of the project can be expected later this year. This will include a $40 million hotel and a safari experience for guests in the Wild Africa precinct.
Ms Bensted said the upgrade is a massive boost for tourism and jobs.
“The development of the Visitor Centre, the onsite accommodation by private investor Gerry Ryan and the Wild Africa Safari experience will bring more visitors to the Murraylands region, making it an extremely valuable and job-creating project,” Ms Bensted said.

Premier Marshall said South Australian tourism will undoubtedly increase with Monarto’s new updates.
“With international borders opening soon, the timing of this Visitor Centre is perfect,” Premier Marshall stated.
The Centre is a way of introducing a new way of exploring the Monarto Safari Park site. While the first phase only allows this to be a day-long excursion, when the final two phases are introduced, especially the Hotel, visitors can expect a more immersive and lengthed experience.
No date has been set for the opening, but they we can expect an annoucement soon.
Keep an eye out for the open and any new development on their website.
