Throughout December and January, Moonlight Cinema has entertained crowds on the lush lawns Botanic Park in Adelaide. The action, drama and laughs are set to continue with a number of exclusive and advanced screenings, dress-up nights, cult films, kid’s nights and doggie nights, helping to beat those back to work blues this February.
Choose the perfect Valentine’s Day date option – a romantic night under the stars at a special screening of the iconic 1961 film, Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Moonlight will also be adding a touch of ritz for what is sure to be a classy affair with a complimentary glass of bubbly on arrival!
With the award season upon us, Australia’s favourite and biggest outdoor cinema will present advance screenings of films that are sure to define 2015. These exclusive screenings kick off on Sunday 1 February with a showing of Selma, a historical drama about Dr Martin Luther King’s voting rights march. On Wednesday 4 February you’ll be spying on Colin Firth, Samuel L. Jackson and Michael Caine in the advanced screening of Kingsman: The Secret Service.
The month will draw to a close with an advanced screening of Tim Burton’s latest offering Big Eyes, featuring Amy Adams’ Golden Globe winning performance. On Tuesday 24 February catch Michael Mann’s Blackhat, starring Chris Hemsworth as the furloughed convict Nicholas Hathaway in search of a high-level cybercrime network from Chicago to Jakarta. On Friday 27 January catch Joaquin Pheonix’s latest venture Inherent Vice, a psychedelic comedy-drama set in 1970. The advanced screenings round off on Saturday 28 February with Focus, an account of veteran criminal (Will Smith) and his attractive apprentice (Aussie actress, Margot Robbie) on their subsequent affair.
Exclusive to Moonlight Cinema will be the premier of The Dead Lands, a tale of treachery set in tribal New Zealand, as well as an exclusive airing of Escobar: Paradise Lost on Thursday 19 February; a thrilling drama about Pablo Escobar and Colombia’s sinister underbelly featuring star of The Hunger Games, Josh Hutcherson.
The February fun and frivolity continues as Moonlight invites you to show your true colours at their dress-up movie nights. The zombie apocalypse is summoned on Friday 6 February as the festival screens the new Aussie Armageddon flick,Wyrmwood. The theme shifts from gruesome to gaudy on Friday 13 February for a special airing of the iconic cult hit, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Dust off those fishnets and sequins and get ready for a rollicking night under the stars. The nostalgic hits commence on Sunday 8 February with a screening of Monty Python’s laugh-a-minute classic Life of Brian.
Get your chance (finally!) to weigh in the most controversial film of 2014, The Interview. The comedy, starring James Franco and Seth Rogen, became the eye of a political storm as North Korea took exception to the plot of the satirical film. Come see what the fuss was all about and have a few laughs along the way when Moonlight shows an advance screening of the film on Wednesday 11 February.
Also joining the stellar lineup will be everyone’s favourite, marmalade loving bear, Paddington. Bring the kids along on Saturday 7 February to a night of family entertainment.
The Doggie Night sessions have been a hit with Moonlight crowds this year and you’ll get the opportunity to bring your pooch along for two more nights in February. Dates include Thursday 12 February with the critically acclaimed musical adaptation of Into The Woods. You’re also invited to bring your pooch to the most recent installment of the Takenfranchise: Taken 3, with Liam Neeson returning to the familiar role, the action-thriller is sure to satisfy all comers.
Moonlight Cinema is the perfect place to pack a picnic, a bottle of wine and relax at the flicks. Don’t worry if you’ve had to rush from the office; the LA style food trucks will be serving up tantalizing street fare, including wagyu beef cheeseburgers, pulled pork brisket burgers and Southern-fried chicken burgers.
