Adelaide is about to get a whole lot more colourful, creative and joyfully chaotic. One of Australia’s most loved children’s experiences is on its way to South Australia from Victoria, and this is not your average playroom.
MoPA, short for Museum of Play and Art, has confirmed it will open a brand new venue in Adelaide in 2026.
The immersive indoor wonderland will be purpose-built at Adelaide Airport on Sir Donald Bradman Drive, making it a dream destination for locals and visitors alike. Families will soon be trading boarding passes for paintbrushes.

“We couldn’t be more excited to secure a site at Adelaide Airport for our brand new Children’s Museum,” said MoPA Director Billie Georgieff.
“Finding a central location, with such incredible amenities, has been our number one priority for expansion here into Adelaide.”
After winning hearts and tiny paint-covered hands in Geelong and Melbourne, MoPA is now bringing its signature blend of creativity, learning and hands-on fun to South Australian families.

Designed for children aged 1 to 12, the new venue will be filled with vibrant installations, playful zones and interactive exhibits that encourage imagination, curiosity and freedom of expression.
“MoPA is a wonderful, clever, quirky experience that combines science, art, innovative toys and games,” said Brenton Cox, Managing Director of Adelaide Airport.
The new addition is expected to become a must-visit destination for families travelling through, as well as those living nearby.
MoPA transforms the idea of a museum into a wonderland. Children will be able to paint, build, discover, tinker and create in beautifully designed spaces made just for them.
Parents can either join in the fun or relax with a coffee, knowing their little ones are exploring in a safe and thoughtfully curated environment.
The venue will feature collaborative art walls, immersive exhibits, sensory-rich play areas and calming spaces for downtime. There are no screens and no pressure, just open-ended experiences that let young minds lead the way.

“Securing a brand-new building in a location that’s central to so much of the population and being able to provide guests with safe and free car parking on-site means that our Adelaide museum will provide the level of accessibility to Adelaide families that we thought was only a pipedream,” Billie added.
The team behind MoPA believes that unstructured self-expression helps shape confident, creative young people who feel free to follow their ideas.
Adelaide is next in line to experience it for themselves, and the countdown to opening has begun.
