The Morphett Arms has just completed a full transformation of its space with beautiful Scandinavian inspired interiors, secluded booths, and warm, modern details. The finishing touches of the epic renovation have been completed just in time for winter, attracting vibrant crowds, with classic brews back on tap, and a new menu of elevated pub favourites. If you haven’t been to the Morphett Arms recently, this stylish pub is well worth putting back on your radar.

“It’s a delightful modern space that still feels really warm and welcoming,” says venue manager Abby McDonough. “Being such a big space that’s been around for so long, it was definitely due for a facelift. We wanted to open it up, make it more inviting, lighter and brighter.”
With highlights of Italian Marble and lighter wood replacing older stylings, the main dining area is primed for tasteful dinners, complete with a buzzing pub atmosphere. Featuring custom-made timber tables, an elevated VIP area, and a much larger capacity, this space has had a major glow up. Dining here is a treat whether you’re celebrating something or you’re just keen for a delicious meal in a warm, modern venue.

“It’s elevated pub-style food but still hearty for winter,” Abby says. “The pork belly porchetta is probably the most popular, and we’ve also got a lamb shoulder and Shiraz pie. They’re flying out the door.”
Elsewhere on the menu, for a fresh hit of spice, the coconut laksa is the pick. Or if you’re really looking to indulge, opt for a steak from the grill, served with roasted cherry tomato and bacon salsa, hand-cut chips, horseradish aioli, broccolini, and jus. All the pub classics you’ve come to expect, along with a range of pizzas and burgers are also available. Bring the kids along on a Monday night and they’ll eat free with every main meal ordered.

If you’re after a more casual night, or just something to ease into dinner, the lounge bar and the courtyard are the places to go. The courtyard is also a perfect place to book functions, parties, and gatherings. While you’re there, enjoy a curated selection of Australian wines, kick things off with a cocktail, or grab one of the special brews the Morphett Arms has on offer.
With the cold weather in full swing, dark beers are having a moment, and this is the place to drink them.
“We’ve put on a couple of new wintery dark beers that pair really well with the new menu items,” says Abby. “We pour Guinness on tap, which is super popular right now.” Plus, the pour is complete with official branded glasses.
“We’ve also just got our hands on Southwark Stout,” Abby continues, “Which is our flagship winter beer. It’s really hard to get. Last year they didn’t release it in kegs at all, so we snapped it up this year.”

The ambitious refurbishment began back in 2017 with a fully renovated dining room, which already caught the attention of awards panels, receiving the award for Best Redeveloped Hotel – Metropolitan, at the 2018 AHA|SA Awards for Excellence.
Since then, the lounge bar, courtyard, bistro, and gaming room have all been modernised in a cohesive campaign to bring the entire hotel up to the same high standard set by the initial revamp.
Abby describes the process as an effort to “continually change, update, and refresh the venue.”

“We’ve gone from something quite dated and dark to something light, bright, and inviting,” Abby tells us.
Along with accolades, the renovations have already brought an excited young crowd that comes for the atmosphere, the food, the drinks, and the whole experience. Now these renovations are fully complete, it’s the beginning of a new era for the venue, and well worth checking out.
