Family-owned and operated fruit shop Adelaide’s Fresh Fruiterers has been crowned National Retailer of the Year. You could even say that the business is incom-pear-able.
Adelaide’s Fresh Fruiterers was the apple of the public’s eye at the A Better Choice Awards. This is the second time that the retailer has taken the top spot in the category.
A Better Choice is an initiative that supports more than 550 fruit and veg business owners across Australia who supply over half of the fresh produce sold each year.
Owner Dino Labbozzetta, couldn’t have been happier with the result and hopes to continue the momentum of supporting local independent businesses.
“We received the news on a live stream with other nominees yesterday morning and we were so happy to see the outpour of support,” Labbozzetta says.
The voting process was unlike many other awards, with the public serving as the judging panel and voting on who they thought should take the top spot.
“We knew there was going to be a lot of great businesses that we were up against, but the voting process was slightly different. The customers had their say by scanning a QR code to review their experience.
“The reception has been so good and we’ve had a lot of positive feedback with The Tiser, The Today Show and all we can really so is thank our loyal customers,” Labbozzetta continues.
A Better Choice’s purpose is to highlight some of Australia’s most underrepresented businesses by giving them a platform. This meant that Adelaide’s Fresh Fruiterers had some stiff competition but according to Dino, if one small business wins they all do.
“We’re not the busiest shop in SA, but we keep going back to the one word that sets us apart. Trust. Our customers trust our product and our old-fashioned service.
“The more shine that SA independent businesses get, the greater the impact is on the rest of us. It’s really great to see that we’re (retailer) all doing well. We all wake up early, we all do a similar job. It’s just great to see South Australia winning,” Labbozzetta continues.
