Mortgage Disaster Relief for Westpac Customers

Westpac will cover a year of mortgage payments for customers who lost their homes in Australia’s recent bushfires.

Westpac has revealed an increase in support for Australian customers and communities who have been impacted by the recent bushfires across the country.

The bushfires that have been raging for months in states across all of Australia, have claimed many homes, devastating an untold number of Australians.

In addition to the existing Westpac disaster relief initiatives, Westpac announced a commitment to assisting its 13 million accumulative customers that have lost their homes as a direct result of the bushfires, by relieving them of their monthly mortgage payments, up to $1,200 per month, for a full year.

This increase in the Westpac disaster relief support is also said to include the customer facing brands of St. George, Bank of Melbourne, BankSA, BT and RAMS.

Westpac Acting Chief Executive Peter King says, “In times of such unprecedented devastation, we want customers and communities to know we’re here to help alleviate financial concerns so they can rebuild their lives, homes and businesses.”

In addition to mortgage assistance for home owners, Westpac is also offering interest-free loans to help cover rebuilding costs, a cash grant of up to $2,000 for essential items and accomodation, and fast tracked credit approvals to improve short-term assistance.
