Illuminate Adelaide is fast approaching and the excitement is well and truly building. With a huge program of light and sound installations and a killer music line-up, it’s shaping up to be a huge month of entertainment. And it’s only getting bigger.
ORBIT is the latest instalment to the 2022 program for Electric Playground as part of BASE CAMP in Victoria Square this July.
This immersive audio-visual installation invites audiences to experience a cacophony of cosmic sound inspired by the orbital cycles of our solar system. The work will incorporate immersive surround sound paired with mesmerising beams of light evoking pervasive awe, wonder and excitement in witnessing how these cycles repeat and intersect with each other.
Layers of looping sound play around audiences, representing in scale how planets, moons and stars revolve around our sun. Soundtrack composed by Motez Obaidi, one of Adelaide’s most renowned music producers, and Mapped Design – a creative studio specialising in tech-driven art and experiences.
This ambitious project is the second in a series of installation projects between Mapped Design Studio and Motez under the pseudonym Harsh Realities – with the official brand launch to come later this year.
Entry is included with the price of admission to Electric Playground. The work will be housed in a pop-up exhibition space in the heart of the Adelaide CBD, open as per details listed on the BASE CAMP page of the Illuminate website.
Illuminate Adelaide is taking place from 1–31 July, with the second iteration of the festival seeing more than 40 free works over 17 days. The brand new program of boundary-pushing local and international artists who will reimagine laneways, street fronts and open spaces across the city in three precincts: North, East and West.
