Mother, Wife & the Complicated Life – The Musical

Mother, Wife & the Complicated Life – The Musical is a hilarious and heart-warming new musical that takes an honest look at marriage and motherhood. Written by Adelaide’s own Amity Dry, who made her name on the original series of The Block, the show has been impressing both critics and audiences alike since its inception.

It was short-listed for the New Musicals Australia workshop prize and its debut at the 2011 Adelaide Fringe Festival enjoyed packed houses, standing ovations and 5 star reviews.

‘There is a beautiful truth about this production. It is a raw look at relationships, parenthood, love and family and the audience hangs on every word.’ – Stage Whispers

‘Highly Recommended. Fantastic!’ – Rip It Up

‘This show is a gem, with everything about it just right. 5 Stars.’ – Adelaide Theatre Guide

It was clear the show’s blend of humour and honesty in addressing the often unspoken truths about marriage and motherhood hit a powerful chord. Creator Amity Dry says, “The response to the show exceeded all my expectations. There were screams of laughter from the first song, yet also moments you could have heard a pin drop. As a writer I wanted to show that, as parents and spouses, we all go through the same challenges and real life is nothing like the movies! It was wonderful seeing women come with their mothers groups, girlfriends, husbands, sisters and mums and leave having laughed at themselves, with the knowledge that we all the same.”

Due to the success of the debut season, production company Space Entertainment (headed by Amity and husband Phil Rankine) has been inundated with requests to stage the show again. Therefore, we are pleased to announce the upcoming tour of Mother, Wife & the Complicated Life – The Musical this October.
