mothers-day-classicAdelaide’s largest Mother’s Day gathering, the Mother’s Day Classic has commenced the one month countdown and this year organisers are seeking to crack 10,000 participants on May 10!

The Mother’s Day Classic is an entertaining and family-friendly event that offers people of all ages the chance to participate in a non-competitive, inspiring and fun walk/run that raises vital funds for breast cancer research.

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australian women (1% of breast cancer is in men), with about 40 new diagnoses each day.

Similar to previous years, the Classic will be held at Peace Park, taking walkers and runners along the Torrens and through the picturesque Botanic Gardens. Adelaide will come alive with a sea of pink combining Mums, Dads, Grandparents, children, survivors and those in the midst of their cancer journey.

In the lead up to the event, inspiration is not hard to find with hundreds of people affected by breast cancer sharing their reason for participation online and on social media.

“We are encouraged by the fighters, the individuals that have pledged to walk in the midst of cancer, to boldly wear a pink wig to cover the most obvious side effects of chemotherapy. They help us demonstrate a very clear message – if we join together and continue to raise funds, we inch closer and closer to a cure,” explains Mother’s Day Classic Adelaide Chair, Lisa Samuels.

Adelaide will be one of 104 locations celebrating the national event, joining capital cities and regional areas large and small, from Broken Hill, to a cattle station at Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory.

The event, initiated by Women in Super, will this year pass the $25 million mark in funds raised for National Breast Cancer Foundation research, achieving a lasting impact on survival statistics and providing research answers for a range of other cancers.

Mother’s Day Classic has become increasingly popular with families as a fun, healthy way to start Mother’s Day, and this year the event offers discounted family tickets nationally and lots of family entertainment and activities on the day.
