Mount Lofty House continues 200 year legacy as a summer retreat with luxury stays and fine dining

In 1852, Mount Lofty House was built as a summer retreat. Fast forward to today, the estate stands as a five-star boutique hotel in the Adelaide Hills.

In 1852, Arthur Hardy – a well-known politician, lawyer, and businessman – built Mount Lofty House as a summer retreat from the sweltering heat of Adelaide. The estate went on to become the backdrop for lavish dinner parties and grand galas that attracted South Australia’s elite for nights filled with dancing, drinking, and partying.

Fast forward to today, Mount Lofty House stands as a five-star boutique hotel in the Adelaide Hills, known for its luxurious escapes, Three-Chef Hat fine dining restaurant, day spa experiences, and stunning wedding venues. Just as Arthur Hardy once sought refuge here during the summer two centuries ago, there’s no better place to be in 2024. Mount Lofty House invites guests to experience its Summer Escape package and High Tea, perfect for sunny days and warm nights.

The Summer Escape package is a two-night getaway, featuring luxurious accommodation, and a range of exclusive activities. Each day begins with an à la carte breakfast for two, served with beautiful views of the Piccadilly Valley. Guests can also enjoy a daily house welcome and history tour, with a seasonal signature drink.

For a truly special experience, the Summer Seafood Experience at Hardy’s Verandah Restaurant showcases the best of South Australian flavours. Upon arriving at the tiered lawns, guests will be welcomed with a glass of sparkling wine and have the opportunity to create their own oyster and ceviche platter. Guided by the restaurant’s chef, you’ll choose from a selection of dressings and condiments to customise your seafood creation. Once your platter is ready, you can relax and enjoy it in the beautiful gardens, taking in the stunning valley views and soaking up the sunshine.

If you are indeed a foodie, there is so much more to try at Hardy’s Verandah Restaurant, which has Three-Chef Hats and is renowned for fine dining. The hotel also features an impressive 175-year-old wine cellar with over 1300 labels to explore if you love wine. For those seeking relaxation, the Gatekeeper’s Day Spa offers a range of rejuvenating treatments, while the estate’s Butler Service is on hand around the pool deck and terrace gardens. Plus, this package includes a $100 estate credit for added fun!

Prices for the Summer Escape package start at $599 per night for a minimum two-night stay in the Classic Room category, available from December 1st to February 28th (subject to availability).

Complimenting the Summer Escape package, Mount Lofty House offers a High Tea experience at Hardy’s Verandah Restaurant that is perfect for the warm summer months. Guests can enjoy pastries, finger sandwiches, and loose-leaf teas in a stunning setting.

The restaurant has a sophisticated ambiance, with timeless decor and panoramic views, while thoughtfully arranged tables and outstanding service make sure that every detail is special. The High Tea is available seven days a week, with sessions from 12pm to 2pm and 2pm to 4pm. Prices begin at $79 per person, with a children’s menu offered for $45 for those aged 0 to 12.
