Mount Torrens Hotel and Farm Yard Wines bring second round of their pop-up wine bar

Taking over the stables at the Mount Torrens Hotel, Farm Yard Wines is setting up for Wine Bar Round 2 to pour the beloved but tongue-in-cheek labels.

Following the success of the pop-up wine bar launch party in January, cheeky label Farm Yard Wines is hosting another cellar door party this weekend.

Taking over the stables at the Mount Torrens Hotel, Farm Yard Wines is setting up for Wine Bar Round 2 to pour the beloved but tongue-in-cheek labels like Pigs Arse and Loose Goose.

On Sunday March 6, the stables will be transformed into a wine lovers’ playground, with the wine bar party bringing live music, tasty food and of course, great wines to the Adelaide Hills.

The wine bar will exclusively pour Farm Yard Wines cheeky yet terrific drops, acting as an almost cellar door for the budding label.

Tickle your taste buds on the fine bubbles of the Gutsy Duck as you cool off from March’s balmy weather. For the Rosé lovers out there, the talented bartenders will be slinging tipples of the Randy Rabbit for you to sip on.

“The vision was for people to be able to come along, sit on the grass, tables and hay bales, have a wonderful afternoon listening to music and have a great time,” says Farm Yard Wines owner Gary Collis.

“The first event we held was pretty big; we sold out with 150 tickets.

“This one is perhaps a little more intimate. We’re looking at having 50 to 60 people.”

The motivation to host a second pop-up wine bar event came from the first event’s amazing feedback.

“People were demanding another pop-up,” Gary said.

“They fell in love with the wine at the first one.

“With everything going on at the moment…sometimes an event like this lets people relax and remind people what it is like to listen to good music and have a few good drinks.”

Taking the stage for Wine Bar Round 2 will be the Laidback Lads playing acoustic tunes and a mix of all your favourite classics.

Guests will be treated to a delicious grazing board and with a glass of wine, bubbles or soft drink on arrival. Tickets to the event cost $30 for adults and $22 for children aged 12-18.

Opening a place to house his cheeky wines wines a dream come true for Gary. His local watering hole, the Mount Torrens Hotel, have worked with him to make his dreams reality and are doing it yet again for round 2.

“The Mount Torrens Hotel sell all of the [Farm Yard Wines], and they had to keep listening to me talk about opening a wine bar,” says Gary.

“Then they said to me, Gary, let’s make your dream come true.

“Round 2 going to have the same excitement as the first round – great music, great food and great wines. Just a little more intimate.”

The former SA employment ombudsman launched the label at the beginning of 2021, after Gary’s wife gifted him 12 bottles of Shiraz and a chance to design a wine label for his 70th birthday.

Since then, Farm Yard Wines has gone from strength to strength, with the wines being poured all over the state – from Port Pirie to the Adelaide Hills you can sip the sassy drops in pubs and hotels.

“I’ve spent most of my working life helping workers and employers, but I’ve always had a dream to have a wine label,” says Gary. “The dream keeps going.”

“This is inspiration for other people out there – live out the dream and don’t crush it, no matter how old you are.”

The Farm Yard Wines launch party is on March 6, from midday until 6pm. You can buy your tickets here.
