Move Over Batman, Microbats Are The Real Heroes For Our Vineyards

Get up close with these little critters and explore the positive role they play in grape production.

Turns out bats aren’t just great at keeping Gotham safe — they actually play a positive role in grape production for our fave vinos. Who knew?

The Barossa Wildlife for Wine project is working to raise the profile of our understated and often misunderstood microbats.

If you’re thinking, “What the heck is a microbat?” this event is perfect for you. Not only will you learn all about them, but there’s a guided night walk involved as well, so you can get up, close, and personal.

For the night walk, you will get to monitor and identify the microbats using thermal imaging and anabat detectors.

Learn about microbat’s role in biocontrol of vineyard pests and biodiversity in and around vineyards — all the while sipping a drop they probably helped flourish.

If this is something you would be interested, Bat Night takes place Tuesday, 3 December from 7pm at Seppeltsfield Winery.
