South Australian founded potato-based fast food store Mr Potato is enjoying a period of significant expansion, including a prominent new location in Adelaide’s CBD at James Place.
The brand, led by dynamic duo Jess Davis and Tyson Hoffman, continues to see its roots deepen in the food industry with each new store opening.
“We have a new franchisee that we’re currently onboarding for Adelaide,” Jess states, marking a significant step for the brand’s presence in the heart of the city.
Jess also shares that the Glenelg store is set for a move to a new development, positioning it better within the coastal suburb.
And, with a new breakfast menu rolling out nationwide, featuring a ‘big brekkie box’ and a vegan option, Mr Potato is ready to serve Adelaide not just its trademark spuds for lunch and dinner, but for breakfast too.
The journey hasn’t been without its hiccups. Three franchised stores in Queensland, initially managed by Hoff Venture, directed by Tyson Hoffman’s sister, didn’t quite hit the mark on maintaining the brand’s high standards.
These outlets, located in Palm Beach, Upper Coomera, and Mermaid Waters, have been reeled back into direct company management after a misinterpreted news article suggested Mr Potato had hit financial troubles, when in fact, it was the franchisee’s business that had ceased.
Mr Potato, which sprouted its first outlet in Adelaide in 2018, has since grown a robust reputation, a fact that founders Jess and Tyson fiercely protect.
Jess told Glam Adelaide that managing franchise businesses requires a mix of support and independence. “It’s a bit of a difficult situation, but we do ensure we have all of the necessary support for these franchises to not just survive, but thrive,” Jess explained.
With the closures in the Gold Coast, Jess assured that the stores are bouncing back under new management. “It’s given us an opportunity to be able regain control of the three stores, some of them have been acquired by a couple who owns another franchisee with us on the Gold Coast,” she says, highlighting the importance of aligning with partners who share the brand’s vision and mission.
Mr Potato’s growth is underscored by the rigorous selection of over 750 franchise applications, ensuring that each new addition to the network is in sync with the company’s goals. This meticulous approach is partly why so many franchisees are eager to join the Mr Potato family, attracted by the substantial growth potential.
