Murder, deception, seduction, revenge… Co-Opera’s latest production, Don Giovanni

Set at a sumptuous Florentine wedding, the story of the Dion Giovanni’s crimes and seductions of wealth, and the havoc he wreaks on the people around him.

Committed to sharing live opera experiences to audiences around Australia, Co-Opera is coming to the Adelaide Wayville Showgrounds this May to present its latest production, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s, Don Giovanni.

Director Nicholas Cannon sets the scene at a sumptuous Florentine wedding, displaying the story of Dion Giovanni’s crimes, seductions of wealth, and the havoc he wreaks on the people around him. With his actions slowly unfolding, characters begin to plot their revenge. Whilst revealing a dark tale, the production brings plentiful amounts of satire and comedy to the stage.

Jeremy Tatchell plays the role of Dion Giovanni, with eyes for flirty Zerlina, taken on by soprano and wife Liza Cannizzaro. Another couple in the cast that will take to the stage, Melbourne’s very own, well established international singers, Eddie Muliaumaseali’i as Loporello, and Sarah Sweeting as Donna Elvira.

The Co-Opera production is described as the ‘perfect opera’ incorporating some of the finest operatic tunes, accompanied by sensational ensembles, conducted by Josh van Konkelenberg. The music director expresses “the opera is a perfect balance of musical architecture, drama, and passion.” 

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s, Don Giovanni will be showing Saturday 4 & Sunday 5 May at 7:30pm. In Co-Opera’s signature cabaret-style production, audiences are invited to bring their own picnic and alcohol.
