Recent Top Tourism Town winner for South Australia, Renmark, not only intends to shine a light on SA at the Australian Top Tourism Town Awards later this year, but it also plans to shine as part of Adelaide’s Illuminate Festival.

In ordinary circumstances, Renmark boasts a spectacular riverfront, lined with an abundance of food and wine venues and premium accommodation offerings. This year, as a Riverland first, a large-scale multimedia event is transforming the Murray River into a responsive art installation, playing with an array of projections, story, and sound.

The highly anticipated, aptly titled In Depth, will include the Ngurunderi dreaming story and will highlight the cultural and spiritual significance of the land and the river to the traditional owners throughout the Murray River system.

In Depth will take place on Erawirung Country and will be narrated by Ngurunderi man and Riverland local Shane Karpany.

The truly collaborative project will highlight the history and community of Renmark, with a multitude of regional councils, award-winning artists and the South Australian Tourism Commission all taking part in its creation.

In Depth is spearheaded by Australian artist and creative producer Craig Walsh, who is internationally known for his pioneering approaches to site-responsive installations, sculpture, and projection mapping unconventional sites.

Craig Walsh’s striking visual works have animated all kinds of natural environments, such as trees, rivers, mountains, and well as urban, architectural spaces.

The Australian artist is also renowned for partaking in iconic music and cultural festivals across Australia and internationally, including the Kyiv Lights Festival, Japan’s Fuji Rock, Splendour in the Grass, and more.

Launching on Friday 3 June and playing until Saturday 2 July, Adelaideans will have plenty of opportunities to visit Renmark and experience this immersive (and free) work .

To experience In Depth, make your way to the central riverbank precinct, adjacent to the Renmark Club.
