The Myer Centre, the heart and home of Adelaide’s retail precinct, is using its space on the first floor to showcase local SA wineries through pop-up bars for tastings.

The award-winning Ricca Terra, from Australia’s largest and most fruitful wine growing region, the Riverland, has led the way as the first in the series that launched in September – and will continue through October and November for notable events such as Adelaide Fashion Week.

You’ll catch notable Riverland winery Ricca Terra on the ground floor during Adelaide Fashion Week from the 20th until the 22nd of October, on Friday from 11-2pm and then 3-8pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 11-4:30pm.

There will be live music from local musicians as well, which is only fitting for a partnership between Myer Centre and Ricca Terra who are helping create unique experiences celebrating South Australian success stories.

Ricca Terra was awarded a five star rating in the 2020 James Halliday Wine Companion and again in 2021, and has also been listed in the Top 10 upcoming wineries in Australia.

“While the Riverland is Australia’s largest wine growing region, for many, it is unknown or misunderstood,” said Ricca Terra’s winemaker, Ashley Ratcliff, painting a romantic picture. Ratcliff has held the title of Riverland Winemaker of the Year.

“Cutting through the heart of the Riverland is the Murray River, Australia’s largest river system. The abundance of native flora and fauna, morning fogs that blanket the river and the gentle flow of water heading south towards the Murray Mouth creates the perfect setting for a quintessential Australia wine region, that cannot be replicated anywhere in the world. The wines crafted from the Riverland’s terroir are fresh vibrant and show little respect of boundaries, very much like a meandering river,” he added.

The move for Myer Centre to support local wineries from around South Australia comes following China’s decision to slap a huge tariff on Australian wine, putting the industry at risk. While Ricca Terra is not directly affected, the shopping precinct is committed to supporting South Australian businesses and an industry that’s synonymous with our state.

“The past few years have been hard on retail, but there’s also a renewed appreciation for in-person spaces and events,” said Myer Centre’s Marketing Manager, Lia Wilson. “South Australians rallied to support local businesses post-lockdown and it’s time to step that up again to protect the growers that make our state great.”

Activated retail events promoting local regions become core strategies given the wine industry contributes over $45 billion annually to the Australian economy.
