A new opportunity for a weekend escape has opened with Myponga Reservoir being slated to open for recreation use on Sunday, April 14.
An hour’s drive from Adelaide’s CBD and within the heart of the Fleurieu Peninsula, the reservoir is the definition of natural beauty.
With sprawling walking trails, countless scenic picnic spots to throw your rug on and bushland bike tracks, this area is perfect for the families and nature lovers of South Australia!
The Myponga Township will also host a classic car tour from 11am as well as the Myponga Markets in the old cheese factory building.
This news has proven to be exciting for many, but especially for myself. I have fond memories of my father and I making our way through walking tracks in the wilderness. As the early morning breeze would freeze my tiny fingers into icicles, my rainbow gumboots would tramp through the mud to find the best view.
Though my attention span was limited, those childhood memories with my father and the outdoors are ones I hold close to my heart and will remember forever.
While fishing, water activities, and camping is still out of bounds, visitors will be able to walk, run and cycle around bushland tracks with water views, enjoy picnics, and visit lookouts and viewing platforms to see and photograph wildlife and scenic vistas in this first stage of opening at Myponga.
There are cautious plans for more reservoirs to open for recreational use so keep an eye out on what other destinations will soon be accessible.
