Nakatomi and Naomi Keyte Headline Labour Day Weekend Party at Crown And Sceptre

Adelaide is going through a musical resurgence at the moment and it isn’t just the big names like Bad Dreems and Tkay Maidza making waves. Nakatomi and Naomi Keyte have been putting on fantastic live shows recently and acts like Eraser Description have been earning a cult following on the back of their packed out shows at The Exeter. All three, plus indie rockers Weekday Wolves play the Crown & Sceptre this Sunday night during the Labour Day long weekend.

Singer and principal songwriter, Emily Smart says Nakatomi was started through the sheer love of performing and “with the sole intention of having fun and playing as many cool shows as possible.” She admits that the act, contrary to what a lot of people might believe from their live shows, are actually quite shy in real life. So live performance serves as a platform for them to “be the complete opposite of our everyday selves.” She believe this sense of “freedom and catharsis” could infect their crowds, making for a high energy symbiosis between performer and viewer..

Nakatomi have been going from strength to strength over the past couple of years and the show this Sunday night at the Crown & Sceptre is the start of a big month for them. “We have a new single coming out next month and first up we’re playing in our home town of Adelaide on October 1st, then we’re co-headlining Sad Grrrls Fest in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney in November.” The other co-headline act is cult indie act Major Leagues who are are making waves all across the national music industry, meaning the shows will receive a lot of exposure interstate. Smart says the band are also aiming to secure some sideshows interstate on the back of the Sad Grrrls Fest and maximise the experience. Given the amount of publicity given to women in music recently, she is chuffed the band is included in so many female dominated lines ups. Other local rising talent Naomi Keyte will also be on the bill at the Sceptre.

For those wishing to find out more, Smart describes Nakatomi as iIndietronic pop with a dose of 80s nostaglia, preheated to 180 for 20 minutes and served with a side of 90s grunge.” You can decide for yourself by checking out the below clip!
