Last Sunday afternoon, the tranquil and heartwarming sounds of Naomi Keyte and band filled the Uraidla Institute in one of the most picturesque parts of the Adelaide Hills.

After biding her time in diverse, but highly regarded acts like Gold Bloom and The Transatlantics, Keyte has developed into one of the most talented indie folk acts in Adelaide in recent years and the launch of her album, Melaleuca is a culmination of this journey.

If you’ve been to one of her shows in the past year or so with members of Sparkspitter and Swimming in her band, you’ll understand why she chose to hold her launch near a beautiful forest setting and in the middle of the afternoon. Melaleuca is a contemplative soundtrack for lazy days in the countryside, varying from haunting earthy melodies to softly pulsating textures. From the album title to the geographic references interwoven into her lyrics, Keyte wanted listeners to immerse themselves in a sonic rich text, where they get a glimpse of various locations which have resonated with her.

Keyte’s talents as a singer and a composer have been well known to those in the local music industry for some time, eventuating in her taking out the 2016 National Live Music Award for Best Live Voice in South Australia. She has also secured coveted spots with the likes of ARIA nominated songstress Olympia, Darren Hanlon and Laura Jean, as well as playing at Moving Music and Here’s to Now.
