Naomi Murrell’s latest capsule collection, She Sells Sea Shells, takes windswept retreat in a remote seaside cabin on the edge of a fishing village.
Inspired by the Paul Simon lyrics ‘My mother was a fisherman’s friend’, the muse for the range is a feminine tomboy; independent, intelligent and keen on exploring.
A palette of indigo blues, slate greys, chalky whites and inky blacks is paired with pops of cobalt blue and tangerine to set the mariner scene. This season the design focusses on offering texture and depth through careful fabric curation including the introduction of a bespoke black and white stripe in linen, swiss dots in cotton voile, a cobalt silk fujette, delicate silk crepe de chine and organic cotton knitwear.
Custom brass hardware details on the Shell Top, Ship Shape Shirt and Pier Pants are a nod to classic sailor style and Naomi’s jewellery background, while the crop sleeves and open fronted Harbour Coat draws on traditional Japanese fishermens’ garb. Timeless silhouettes and nautical undertones work together to form wearable, trans-seasonal pieces to dress up or down or sing a sea shanty in.
To round out the story, Naomi Murrell has teamed up with ethical label Vege Threads to produce a limited edition colab tee for the collection. A custom, crisp white organic cotton tee is screen printed in indigo with Naomi’s hand lettered title, She Sells Sea Shells.
The message in this bottle? Layer-able, playful, and elegant – the emphasis is on staying snug and looking sharp through the high seas of Winter, right into the refreshing sea spray of Spring.
