They’ve done it again! South Australia’s much loved Never Never Distilling Co has taken out a host of awards at this year’s Australian Distilled Spirit Awards including the top gong of Champion Australian Distillery – for the third year in a row.
Never Never has now taken out the industry’s highest accolade three times in a row, making them the first distillery to do so. The McLaren Vale-based business won an astonishing nine medals at the awards in total including five gold, three silver and a bronze. What makes the feat even more extraordinary is that they managed to pull off the ‘threepeat’ despite the competition becoming more competitive each year.
The team at Never Never were clearly overjoyed with their achievements taking to its social media account to say thank you. “A MASSIVE thank you to everyone who continues to support us!” they wrote on Facebook. “We set out to cause a stir in the Australian spirits scene and it’s only because of the incredible gin drinkers who buy our products online, at the local bottle-o or order us over the bar that we’re able to keep doing what we’re doing.”
The competition has grown from 162 distilleries in 2020 to over 200 in 2022, all competing for the overall champion’s prize. That’s a jump of almost 30%. Entries over that time jumped from 619 to 863 spirits and liqueurs.
“Going back-to-back-to-back as Australia’s best was an incredible moment, especially looking at the quality of spirits being produced in Australia right now,” says Never Never Head Distiller and co-founder Tim Boast.
“When we started we wanted to make the best gin in Australia, and the consistency of awards continues to validate the fact that we make fantastic products,” says Boast. “If you haven’t tried a Triple Juniper G&T, I reckon now is a good time to start, I know I’m about to have one”, says Boast.
The news continues to drive home the fact that South Australia is the home of Australia’s greatest gin distilleries with Never Never leading the pack when it comes to creating gin that’s built differently.
“Every bottle of gin we make is an invitation to cause a stir,” says Tim. “We make gin that’s bold in character, to create an exciting drinking experience,” he says.
And apparently, the panel of 40 judges at the Australian Distilled Spirit Awards tend to agree.
