South Australia, it is almost summertime! And what better way to celebrate than basking in the glorious sunshine with a glass of wine from one of McLaren Vale’s best boutique wineries?

Tatachilla Estate is celebrating the warmer weather and impending silly season the best way we know how – by hosting sunny Saturday sessions every weekend at their charming, historic property, ironically named Never on Sunday.

Kicking off December 4, Never on Sunday will see Tatachilla Estate transform into a true wine lovers delight, with the stunning 1913 winery and property hosting the laid back afternoons we’ve all been craving.

“The concept is to combine South Australia’s history with good wine, good food and great company,” says event coordinator Kassandra Girolamo.

“The buildings are really authentic and telling of the time, they are huge and they are exactly the same as when they were built…it’s very rare that people can see properties with such history.”

“The atmosphere and scenery are like taking a step back in time to the early 1900s.”

“We want to promote local produce and talent and what has become a wine culture where everyone gathers together to drink a lot of wine, eat a lot of food and have a good time.”

Sprawl out on the lush lawns of the McLaren Vale property and find a shady spot at the cusp of the towering century-old Norfolk Trees forest or bask in the welcomed sunny rays and soak up the magical old-world charm the estate has to offer.

Indulge in a mouth-watering paella and tasty tapas, or graze your way through cheese and meat boards brimming with local produce. Local singer Lauren Greco will be swooning crowds with her stunning, soulful tunes on the opening Saturday, with a revolving line-up of artists continuing throughout the summer.

To celebrate the dreamy Saturday sessions, Tatachilla Estate has released a new range of wines aptly titled Never on Sunday. You can expect an array of drops from the namesake range – from bold Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon tipples to the lighter and fruitier varieties like Moscato and Sparkling Red and White.

While you’ll have to wait for the first event to taste the new drops, Kassandra let us know her favourite in the line-up is the Never on Sunday Rose. The summery tipple intertwines light, refreshing and fruity flavours and is ‘exactly what the doctor ordered’ on a hot summers day.

Saturday night will see Never on Sunday swing into a vibrant celebration of local talent, showcasing several bands and singer-songwriters at the exclusive party. The evening session is a ticketed event, with limited spots to ensure everyone can groove to the live local tunes.

As for the name? Never on Sunday was coined after a Greek night at Tatachilla Estate.

Tina Selini’s 1960 tune ‘Ta Pediá Tou Pireá’ swooned crowds at the event, with the translation of the song title (Never on Sunday) ringing true to what the winery envisioned for their magical Saturday sessions.

“It talked about the love between these two people, but their love never happened on a Sunday,” says Kassandra.

“It really spoke to us, and what we wanted the event to be about – good wine and people…the irony is that is it’s on Saturday.”

“We just want people to come down and appreciate how lucky we are to have things so authentic in South Australia’s backyard.”

Never on Sunday is hosted at Tatachilla Estate every Saturday, kicking off at 11am to later afternoon. The evening session will kick off at 6pm with dancing til late.
