Developers CK Property Group, Architecture practice Brown Falconer, and EVENT Hospitality & Entertainment have entered into an agreement to develop a new $60 million hotel on the Port Adelaide waterfront.
According to a report by The Hotel Conversation, the new Rydges at the Wharf Hotel is expected to have 180 rooms, six storeys, a restaurant and bar, and an open terrace for outdoor dining.
This is in conjunction to City of Port Adelaide Enfield’s revitalisation of the Port centre and surrounds, which includes new shopping centres, housing, and commercial buildings.
The $90 billion commitment by the Federal Government to Defence Spending will make itself apparent in the Naval Shipbuilding yards at Osbourne where 12 new attack submarines and nine Hunter Class Navy Frigates will be built and maintained over the next three decades.
CK Group have stated that undertaking the project is a result of this government investment.
The hotel’s progress will coincide with the City of Port Adelaide Enfield’s intention to transform McLaren Parade, which sits one block from Port River, into to a premium boulevard.
The project will utilise a pedestrian and cyclist oriented design, featuring changed roads, new public art, and street furniture.
The overall cost of City of PAE’s revitalisation is said to be $1.85 million, with $600,000 provided by the State Government through the Open Spaces and Places Grant, and the remainder funded by the council.
Construction periods will be reliant on the proposed hotel’s development, as such, stage one will begin east of the hotel from Timpson Street to Lipson Street, and stage two will encompass Lipson Street to Commercial Road.
The development of the hotel is expected to begin in early to mid 2021.
