New Adelaide Airport Car Park Opens

Adelaide Airport Ltd (AAL) is anticipating a smooth transition for its customers after the opening of the new multi-level short term car park this week.

Executive General Manager Airport Operations, Vince Scanlon, said Adelaide Airport passengers and visitors should pay close attention to new signage directing them to the new car park and the new pick-up and drop-off points.

“From Monday the upper and lower roadways out the front of the terminal will be closed to general traffic, so you will no longer be able to pick up or drop off passengers in these locations,” Mr Scanlon said.

“These changes to the pickup and drop-off areas will allow us to plan for the future of Adelaide Airport by allowing room for further expansion of the terminal building and improved security outcomes. We’ve also created a pedestrian-friendly zone between the car park and the terminal by removing all vehicle traffic.

“We will have additional staff on hand to assist customers with directions and within the new car park to help with parking enquiries.

“We believe the new multi-level car park will be significantly easier to use, but we ask our customers to be extra vigilant while they familiarise themselves with the new arrangements.”

Mr Scanlon said the new state-of-the-art parking guidance system would be monitoring traffic movements over the first few days and then use this data to refine its parking guidance software.

The new multi-level short term car park is more than double the size of the old car park, and features an undercover link bridge connecting the car park with the terminal.

Parking spaces will, on average, be closer to the front of the terminal, and pedestrian access between the car park and terminal across the link bridge will be vehicle-free.

AAL will also be running two customer promotions to mark the opening of the new car park:

Customer service teams will be handing out retail vouchers during the next two weeks  for use in the retail area of the terminal.

Motorists parking for three or more days in the short term car park will receive one day’s free parking, valued at $30.  Valid until 30th September. More details are available on the Adelaide Airport website – www.adelaideairport.com.au.

Tips for Adelaide Airport customers

Access to the new car park and pick-up / drop-off locations will be via Sir Richard Williams Drive – drive straight ahead at the first main roundabout.

The new car park features ‘cashless’ exit – which means you can pay with your credit card (Visa, Bankcard, American Express) as you drive out, rather than using a pay station.

Parking for people with disability parking permits are available directly adjacent the lifts on all levels – look for the parking guidance system’s ‘blue’ lights.

Pick-up and drop-off points are now on the ground level of the new car park.  You will no longer be able to pull up directly out the front of the terminal.

Taxis will pick up in their current location for now.  A new taxi pick-up area will open in September.

Public transport buses (eg J1, J2, J7) will temporarily pick up on the ground level directly outside the domestic baggage carousel area.

Rental vehicles are located on the ground floor of the new car park.

For a short time there will be two different types of pay machines – this is so people still parked in the old car park can pay at the old machines before exiting. If you have a white parking ticket – use the old machine on the ground level inside the terminal.  If  you have a yellow ticket – use the new machines located in the new car park.
