Live music enthusiasts will now have access to the latest information about gigs in Adelaide at their fingertips thanks to a brand new app – NXTGIG – being launched today in the Adelaide Town Hall Meeting Hall, behind the Customer Centre at 25 Pirie Street Adelaide at 12 noon.
Adelaide City Council’s Live Music Action Plan 2014-16 was launched last year to support live music in Adelaide and North Adelaide. The NXTGIG app is one of three initiatives under the plan which will be launched today.
Lord Mayor Martin Haese said he was delighted to see the first of the series of initiatives around developing partnerships with industry to enable long term sustainable Policies and Guidelines that provide real support to live music.
“To support emerging bands and musicians, Council is offering a rehearsal space in the Adelaide Town Hall Meeting Hall (annexed to Pilgrim Uniting Church), providing performers with a premium location which is central, easily accessible with wonderful acoustics, at no cost to the user,” said Martin.

Our Council staff have also worked with the Exeter Hotel in Rundle Street to install a paste up wall where musicians can promote gigs and industry information in a prominent location in the city’s east end.
“Live music really is very important to any city, and nowhere more than in Adelaide with our reputation for performance and festivals. We are also pleased to have been able to provide support for the development of the NXTGIG app, which can include listings from any form of live entertainment at no cost to the artist,” he said.
“We’re starting to realise tangible outcomes from the action plan, and I’m really looking forward to the benefits they will bring the city into the future.”
NXTGIG developer Karl Falzon said NXTGIG captures information about live music including artists, venues and show times in one place for everyone and in real time.
“It’s free to list your performance and it’s free to access information about gigs and events. NXTGIG can also help with understanding the audience, which is crucial for audience development and the survival of industry and venues,” said Karl.
“Adelaide is the ideal place to launch new ideas like NXTGIG, the population is small but also active and involved, and has a reputation as a smart city. It makes sense to start here before we expand across Australia and internationally in 2016,” he said.
