New all-day Indian restaurant in North Adelaide serves live music and a dietary-friendly feed

This place hosts live music, events, and a dietary-friendly fusion menu with all the Indian and Western hits.

If you’re looking for a place that does it all, look no further than the newly opened Jalsa, an all-day Indian cafe, bar, and restaurant making waves with its fusion menu and weekend live music.

Taking its name from the Punjabi word for celebration, Jalsa offers a flavourful blend of cuisines.

“We’re a mixture,” says manager Simranpreet Kaur.

“We serve South Indian, North Indian, Indo-Chinese, and even do Western breakfasts. It’s fusion at its finest.”

Crowd favourites include the tandoori ‘Soya Chaap’ – soy bean marinated in yogurt and spices, the classic butter chicken, and their standout ‘Jalsa’ Naan – a cheesy, garlicky, chilli-laced fusion of all the naan styles in one.

Then there’s their dosa – a thin, savoury crepe made from a fermented batter. Jalsa’s is served hot with coconut chutney and tangy sambar for “the ultimate south Indian experience.”

Those after Aussie fare will find plenty of options too, including eggs benny and smashed avo.

Just like the food, the drinks list is broad and imaginative. There are classic and Indian-inspired cocktails and mocktails, plus coffee, matcha, beer, spirits and shakes – something to suit every palate, and occasion.

Since quietly opening over the new year, the place has already carved out a following. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner from Wednesday through Sunday – and dinner-only on Tuesdays- the sprawling 200-seat venue has become a hub for everything from family dinners to VIP visits.

“We’re even hosting important ministers from India this month,” Simranpreet shares.

Live music brings the space to life on weekends, with Bollywood performances on Fridays and acoustic Western sets on Saturdays, adding atmosphere and sparkle to your night out.

Jalsa is also proudly inclusive, with vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options across the menu.

“All our curries are gluten-free, and we can do mild, medium or spicy. We’re always happy to customise for guests,” shares Simranpreet.

Families are especially welcome, with a dedicated kids’ play area making it easy for parents to sit back and relax.

With its warm hospitality, versatile menu, and celebration of culture, Jalsa is the kind of place that suits it all – laid-back brunches, date nights, and celebrations of every kind.

As for why you should come, “I want people to try authentic Indian food,” says Simranpreet.

“When you say Indian, people assume it’s spicy. We want people to come for the flavours, and we can accommodate everyone,” she adds.
