New Analysis Suggests Aussies To Ditch DIY This Holiday Weekend

While Australia’s appetite for home renovation shows seems endless and public holidays are when homeowners can turn into DIY renovators, new findings suggest that it will be tools down for an increasing number of unmotivated Australians this Queen’s Birthday weekend.

handyman-webWhile Australia’s appetite for home renovation shows seems endless and public holidays are when homeowners can turn into DIY renovators, new findings suggest that it will be tools down for an increasing number of unmotivated Australians this Queen’s Birthday weekend.

According to a recent analysis of consumer searches for businesses online, interest in handymen in Australia has increased by 30 per cent in just 12 months.   This suggests that while more Aussies may be inspired to make changes around the home, they may be more motivated to enlist the services of a trusted professional, than take matters into their own hands.

The research was conducted by TrueLocal, a trusted local business directory and review platform that helps Australians find quality services in their local area. It analysed the fastest growing consumer searches for services on its website and app over a 12-month period[i], to determine what services are experiencing increasing customer demand.

Searches for building construction (25 per cent growth) and electricians (20 per cent growth) have also grown significantly on the platform, featuring within the top 20 fastest growing searches overall.

However, Australians aren’t just seeking expert assistance with their bricks and mortar. There is also an increase in the number of people looking to transform their gardens into tranquil havens, with searches for gardeners increasing by 23 per cent over the 12 month period.

Ruth Trewhella, TrueLocal Group Manager, said, “With over 3.3 million searches taking place on TrueLocal every month, we’re able to determine what Australians seek from businesses in their local areas and what services are most in demand. In this instance, we can see how highly Australians value the honest feedback and the opinions of their peers when searching for a business online, particularly when they’re inviting that business into their home.”

Overall, the fastest growing search on TrueLocal was for computer services and repairs (52 per cent), followed by petrol stations (43 per cent), dry cleaners and launderettes (37 per cent), hairdressers (35 per cent), and shoe stores (34 per cent).
