A hot new tapas and wine bar has touched down on The Parade in Norwood, bringing with it an authentic Spanish style and the ultimate Euro Summer vibes.

Owner David España Gallardo, originally from Madrid in Spain, missed the vibrant bar culture of his hometown and decided to bring a piece of Madrid to Norwood himself.

“My background is in hospitality, so I thought if no one was going to open a bar of this style, I would do it by myself,” David says.

Bar Madrid will be set in an intimate setting designed for versatility and pure enjoyment, embodying the lively, communal spirit of Spanish bar culture. Its compact design reflects European dining, offering a true taste of Spain’s social bar scene.

“The bars are open all day long. You start the day in the morning when you go in for a coffee, and then maybe later, you go back for a drink, or glass of wine and a few nibbles – we call it tapas,” David says.

“Then you pop in after work with mates or family or coworkers, and have a few beers or wine and tapas, and if the night goes on a bit of drinking and tapas at dinner, even a cocktail.

“I want this to be a place that isn’t a restaurant, but somewhere you can go to enjoy good company and of course good food and drink.”

David explains that Bar Madrid isn’t just a restaurant, but a social space where people can gather to enjoy good food and company. Authentic Spanish tapas will be a highlight, with David particularly excited about the exclusive Jamon.

“The only product I couldn’t find here was the beautiful Jamon. There’s nothing similar to it. So, I’ve decided to bring the best of the best,” David says.

“Our Jamon is super high-end, it melts in your mouth. There’s nothing similar to it, it’s not prosciutto, it’s Jamon!”

In Madrid, bars are extremely social places, so with the communal, but intimate design implemented, David hopes that Bar Madrid can be a place where connections new and old are formed.

“We’re here to share our culture. You can speak Spanish with us, if you’re going to visit Spain, you can come in and ask us for recommendations of where to go,” David says.

“I hope this is a place where conversation can flow, even if you don’t know the person next to you. We’re bringing a little bit of Madrid here.”

Bar Madrid is set to become the go-to spot for a genuine Spanish experience, right on The Parade.
